Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) Program

Volunteer advocates meet with victims to provide support and assistance to them and their families during the initial stages of a highly emotional and traumatic experience.  These highly trained volunteers advise the victims of personal and legal rights while providing empathy and crucial perspective of the situation.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VOLUNTEER’S DUTIES

  • To work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information, and referrals.
  • To discuss with the victim their legal rights in regard to obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order. 
  • To empower victims to make decisions about their own lives.

TIME COMMITMENT 

  • A 12-hour on-call shift at least 4 times per month
  • Attend a monthly team supervisory meeting

SKILLS NEEDED FOR VOLUNTEER POSITION: Bi-lingual capability is a plus.  No prior experience in domestic violence required.

TRAINING INFORMATION

40-hour mandatory intensive training course will be provided to successful applicants at no fee.

 

PREREQUISITS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis
  • Submit to background investigations and fingerprinting
  • Participate in an application and interview process
